Is this right for you?

A good fit if

  • Your cloud bill keeps growing, and finance, engineering and the business each see a different part of it.
  • You want to start or reset a FinOps practice and need to know where to begin.
  • Leadership has asked for a plan to control cloud costs, and you want an independent view of where you stand first.
  • You are about to renew a cloud agreement, set next year's budget or choose a FinOps tool.

Probably not for you if

  • You already know where you stand and want every saving priced with a fix plan. The Cloud Cost Audit is the better fit.
  • You want someone to run the practice month to month. FinOps-as-a-Service does that, and starts with a maturity check of its own.
  • You run mainly on Azure, which we do not cover today.

What you walk away with

01

A clear picture of where you stand

Every area of your FinOps practice reviewed across finance and technology, scored against the FinOps Foundation framework, with the gaps named and explained.

02

The waste you can already see

Unused resources, low utilization, uncovered spend and logs nobody reads, sized along the way so you know which areas matter most.

03

A strategic plan for where to invest

Customized recommendations ranked by impact, with owners and a first 90 days in detail, so your next investment in FinOps goes where it pays back most.

What is included

What every package covers. Each package under Pricing says how much of your estate it includes.

Billing data and reporting

What the data in your billing console and exports shows, who can see it, and every FinOps report your teams use today. If the detailed billing export is not set up, we help you set up the billing data and the pipeline for analysis.

Agreements, forecasts and budgets

Your current vendor agreements, and how forecasts and budgets are built, approved and compared with what you actually spend.

Labels and ownership

Your labeling or tagging specification, what percentage of your resources and spend it covers, and how projects or accounts map to teams.

What we hand over

  • Current state report: every area reviewed, with what we found and why it matters
  • FinOps maturity score by capability, against the FinOps Foundation framework
  • Gap analysis against best practice, for finance and for engineering
  • Strategic plan: recommendations ranked by impact, with owners and the first 90 days in detail
  • Executive summary for leadership
  • 60-minute readout with your finance and engineering leads
Everything else that is included

Commitment coverage

Your committed use discounts on Google Cloud, or Savings Plans and Reserved Instances on AWS: how much of your spend they cover, and how well they are used.

Compute and Kubernetes

Compute Engine and GKE, or EC2 and EKS: CPU utilization, and resources that are running but unused.

Storage, databases and logging

Cloud Storage and disks, Cloud SQL and Cloud Logging, or S3, EBS, RDS and CloudWatch Logs on AWS: utilization, and wasteful logs quantified.

BigQuery and Bigtable

Utilization, with visibility on wasted analysis and data that is stored but never used.

Benchmarks and unit costs

Your costs compared with industry benchmarks, your cloud unit costs, such as cost per customer or per transaction, and a cost-benefit analysis of the main options.

Pricing

One fixed-fee assessment. Nothing is paid upfront.

How ordering worksFour steps
  1. We reply within one business day

With times for a free 30-minute scoping call, or straight away with the order if your email already tells us enough.

  2. You get a one-page order

It confirms the package, scope, dates, price and when each invoice is due. Nothing is binding until you sign it, and we sign your NDA first if you have one.

  3. Kickoff

We send the access steps and your secure upload links, and the work starts on the agreed date.

  4. Nothing paid upfront

The fee is invoiced in two halves: 50% at the milestone your order names, usually about halfway, and 50% on completion. Card or bank transfer.

How it works

Your team's time: about 4 hours in total, for the billing export, three short interviews and the readout.

  1. Day 0

    Free scoping call

Thirty minutes on your clouds, your teams and what prompted the assessment. You get a one-page order with the scope, dates and price.

  2. Day 1

    Billing data and read-only access

You upload your detailed billing export through the secure link we send you, and connect read-only access the same way as for the Cloud Cost Audit. If the export is not on yet, we help you turn it on and set up the data for analysis.

  3. Days 2 to 5

    Three short interviews

Forty-five minutes each: finance, for agreements, forecasts and budgets; engineering, for labels, ownership and utilization; and whoever produces or reads the cost reports today.

  4. About day 7

    Current state call

Thirty minutes on what we have found so far, so nothing in the final report is a surprise.

  5. Days 8 to 12

    Report and strategic plan

Every area scored and explained, the gaps named, and the recommendations ranked by where investment will have the greatest impact.

  6. Days 12 to 14

    Readout and follow-up

A 60-minute walkthrough with your finance and engineering leads, then email follow-up while you decide what comes next. Remove our access whenever you like.

Data, access and security

What we need from you, what we can see, and what your security and procurement teams usually ask.

The data we need from you

The assessment reviews what your billing data actually shows, so it needs your detailed billing export as well as read-only access. If the export is not set up yet, we help you set it up first.

What to send, and how it reaches us
  • AWS: your Cost and Usage Report (CUR) from the management (payer) account, covering the last three full months. If you do not have one, we help you create it under Billing and Cost Management, Data Exports; it fills from the day it is created.
  • Google Cloud: your detailed usage cost export from Cloud Billing, covering the last three full months, exported as Parquet files or shared by granting our reader identity read access to the dataset. If it is not on yet, we help you turn it on.
  • Your current agreements, forecasts and budgets, and the cost reports your teams use today, so we can review them with you.

How it reaches us: After kickoff we send you a secure, customer-specific upload link. Uploaded files are stored encrypted in Finitizer's Google Cloud environment in the US, used only for your engagement, deleted automatically 90 days after upload, and deleted sooner on request. One link uploads one file, so zip a multi-file export first.

Step-by-step: how to export and upload this data

Access and security

We read your cloud configuration and billing data, exactly as for the Cloud Cost Audit. We never change anything, and you can remove our access at any time.

How access works
  • We sign your NDA before any access is granted, and send the exact IAM policy and trust policy for your security team to review first.
  • AWS: one CloudFormation stack per account creates a single IAM role with a read-only policy built from the checks you choose. No AWS managed policies, no admin rights.
  • No keys and no shared secrets. The role trusts one Finitizer scanner identity through OIDC federation, so there is nothing to leak or rotate.
  • Explicit deny rules block reading your data: S3 objects, DynamoDB items, CloudWatch Logs, container images and Lambda invocation.
  • Google Cloud: you grant viewer roles to a dedicated Finitizer reader identity at project or folder level. No keys are created, and no organization or billing-account roles are needed.
  • What we keep: configuration, usage and billing metadata, stored in a dedicated dataset for your company in Finitizer's Google Cloud environment in the US, and deleted within 90 days after the engagement ends, or sooner on request.
  • Remove access in minutes by deleting the CloudFormation stack or the role grants.

Who does the work

A team of FinOps Engineers and FinOps Practitioners. The Finitizer platform does the scanning; the team does the judgment, and every finding is reviewed, priced and explained by a person before you see it.

FinOps Engineers

Connect the read-only access, run the analysis on the Finitizer platform, write the Terraform changes, SQL rewrites and reservation commands, and check every number against your bill.

FinOps Practitioners

FinOps-certified. Review and rank every finding, run your review calls and readouts, build the reporting and the practice around it, and lead the training.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the Cloud Cost Audit?

The audit goes deep on savings: every finding priced against your bill, ranked, and written up as a fix plan. The assessment looks at the whole practice: billing data, agreements, forecasts, budgets, labels, ownership, reports and utilization, scored against the FinOps Foundation framework, with a strategic plan for where to invest. Many teams start with the assessment and take the audit next.

How is this different from the maturity check in FinOps-as-a-Service?

FinOps-as-a-Service starts with a short maturity check as the first step of a program we run with you every month. The assessment is a standalone, deeper review with a plan you can run yourself, give to a new hire or use to choose a partner. If you start FinOps-as-a-Service within 60 days, the assessment fee is credited in full.

Why assess before acting?

Most organizations know part of their cloud spend is wasted, but not which part, or who should act on it. An assessment answers both before you invest in tools, people or commitments, and sets out the governance that keeps costs under control afterwards: who owns what, and how forecasts, budgets and performance are reviewed.

What is the FinOps Foundation framework?

The FinOps Foundation publishes the FinOps Framework: principles, the teams involved, the phases of the work and the capabilities a practice needs, each with a crawl, walk and run maturity level. We score you against it, so the results mean the same thing to anyone you share them with.

Who do you need to talk to?

Three people, for 45 minutes each: someone from finance who knows the agreements, forecasts and budgets; an engineering or platform lead who knows the accounts or projects, labels and ownership; and whoever produces or reads the cost reports today. Then the same leads for the readout.

More questions
Our billing export is not set up. Can we still do this?

Yes. On day 1 we help you turn it on and set up the data for analysis. The export only holds data from the day it is switched on, so if there is little history we agree with you whether to start on what there is and review the agreements, budgets, labels and utilization in the meantime, or wait a few weeks.

Will you find savings?

We size the waste we find along the way, such as unused resources, low utilization, uncovered spend and wasteful logs, so you know which areas matter. If you want every saving priced and ranked with a fix plan, that is the Cloud Cost Audit.

Do you make changes in our accounts?

No. Our access is read-only and cannot change anything. Every recommendation is yours to act on, with our help if you want it.

Which clouds do you cover?

AWS or Google Cloud, including BigQuery. Both clouds together, or several organizations, are quoted on a call. Azure is not covered today.

What happens after the assessment?

You keep the report and the plan. Many teams run the plan themselves; others take the Cloud Cost Audit to price the savings, or FinOps-as-a-Service to run the program, with the assessment fee credited in full if they start within 60 days.

How do we pay?

Nothing is paid upfront. Half the fee is invoiced at the current state call, about day 7, and the other half after the readout. Invoices can be paid by card or bank transfer, and we can work with a purchase order.
